What about me?
Do I need to hear an audible call to become a Mission Partner?
No. It is right to claim a call is necessary, but too often we impose our own expectations on what that call will look like. While anticipating bright lights, voices from heaven and piercing revelations we can ignore the quieter prompts. More importantly we can ignore the call of the great commission (Matthew 28:18).
Newsflash. As a Christian you ALREADY are called to mission.
We’re not suggesting everyone is cut out for overseas mission, but we have some great suggestions for discerning whether or not it might be the right option for you:
- Pray about it
- Talk about your plans with your Church leaders – what do they think?
- Arrange a short term opportunity to visit partners already serving overseas
- Contact NZCMS and start a conversation
- Do some reading. We’re currently developing a recommended reading list, in the meantime feel free to contact Sophia in the office for suggestions.
Do I have to be a teacher, doctor or pastor to be a Mission Partner?
No. NZCMS prepares, sends and supports partners with a variety of skills, including teachers, doctors and pastors! It’s true, there are many opportunities to serve overseas in ministry, education and medicine. God however, is not limited in whom he sends. Many opportunities exist for all sorts of people – graphic designers, IT geeks, accountants, administrators, social workers, journalists, scientists, youth workers and the list goes on. NZCMS Mission Partners are real people with real jobs who have a real impact on the communities they work in.
